4.3 oil pump question

Should I get a high pressure oil pump or just go with a stock replacement? How about a high volume? The motor I am using had a remote oil filter,so I just removed it and installed the threaded fitting from my old motor so the filter would be a direct screw on like before, the question I have there is,the other hole where the oil filter screws on is spring loaded and I never paid attention to other motors becase I have never ran across a remote filter before.Do all motors have that spring loaded check valve for the oil filter? Do I need to do anything other than remove the remote filter cover and install the fitting? I think its alright the way I have it but would feel better hearing from someone who knows for sure.

Re: 4.3 oil pump question

i would go with the stock, i dont think the high pressure would matter, but the high volume one will suck a stock pan dry before the oil can get back to the pan,

Not saying that you are incorrect, but Melling claims the pan being sucked dry will not happen unless return passages are plugged because the lifters have metering holes that limit the oil to the top end. I do have a 4X4 pan on my 4.3 that is 2 inches deeper than the standard and marine pans also. I would like to use the high volume, because there is piece of mind knowing the oil pressure would be higher vs. lower, but I just don't want to cause more problems.I have heard many many people say the pan can be sucked dry unless you have a "race pan" but Melling claims it won't happen???

Sounds like you are doing what I am doing....I'm using a '95 4.3 to replace my '88 OMC 4.3....no problems with the oil pan fitment? By remote oil filter do you mean oil cooler? I have to remove one on mine....

The oil pan I am using came on the motor (1999 Chevy Blazer 4X4), I can't use the one from my old motor because it is a 1995 and the 1996 and newer are very different blocks. The pan does physicaly fit in my boat even though it is deeper. By remote filter I meant, the blazer does not have the filter attached to the block,it has 2 lines and an adapter that go from the normal oil filter location to a different location and the filter is mounted away from the motor. I did keep many parts from my 1995,so if you have any questions that I can answer or if you run into a part you need I may have it.
