I can tell that the bearing housing in the lower unit is leaking at the o-ring seal where the 4 bolts are that hold it to the lower unit. Is this expensive to repair and is it difficult to do?

You should post the year of your drive, you may get more answers...

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when i hit something underwater. I believe the piece you are referring to with the four bolts is also called the bearing carrier. Off of memory, there is a seal in the front of it that goes around the shaft. I'd replace that...At the rear, at least on mine, there was an o-ring that seals the carries to the inside of the bullet / outdrive. For me, that was what was causing my leak.

Check out dougrussell.com. THey have parts diagrams that really helped me out. Also, make sure it is able to hold the correct amount of pressure if / when you try to do it. This was the first project i ever attempted to do on a boat and it wasnt too terribly difficult. Also, Dont overtighten one of those four bolts either...
