4.3 omc overheating

I have a 1991 4.3 V-6 omc cobra<br />of course it doesn't overheat hooked to the flushet, or when in drive on the water, only sitting idlein the water. :confused: Water pump ok,new thermostat.What next temp gauge and sender. Help need input!!!

Make sure your hull intake is unobstructed, also the intake hose. Algea and barnicles Love intakes.<br />You may have a plugged manifold too.Do you have dual exaust ports? If so, is one putting out more water than the other? If so, suspect the manifold.<br />Another meathod of checking this, is to run the engine in the water,and touch both manifolds as it heats up..If one heats up sooner,or gets hotter,you have to pull them.<br />If these have never been pulled, they are overdue on a weeekender use level.<br />I hate to tell you this, but it is one of "those jobs"....The jobs I dread doing, because I have never pulled one, and gotten all bolts without breaking at minimum, one. Add to this, the cost of new risers if needed, and I cringe ! But that's just me.It might not bother most wrench-wringers.
