I have an '88 4.3 OMC....looking at my options for replacing it....found a '95 4.3 out of a Chevy S-10.....the '95 has the same intake manifold style as mine(non-Vortec) but I believe has a balance shaft....

Anyone see any problems with this swap? I have a heat shield underneath my intake that may interfere with the balance shaft....what can be done to alieve that?

Also, this motor has a serpentine setup and mine isn't....would that add major cost?

Thanks a lot,
John

I should add, I'm aware I'll have to change the head gaskets to marine and install brass freeze plugs.....any other concerns?

Thanks

Re: 4.3 OMC Replacement

i did almost the exact opposite. had a 96 non vortec with balance shaft, changed to a 90 jimmy, without a blaance shaft. worked great with minor issues. i had to use my balancer as the crank pulley wouldn't fit on the new one. i didn't change head gaskets as it'll only see fresh water. i did change core plugs though. the only other issue i had was with the dipstick. you'll nee to use the marine one as it needs to get to the bottom of the pan. my new engine had a deeper pan, and no hole for ther clamp that hold the dipstick tube. very minor fab work, and she now mint.the

Thanks for the responses....anyone know about the heat shield underneath my current intake manifold? Someone told me before it may interfere with the balance shaft?

Thanks
