4.3 V6 LX GEN + hard to start

On my 1997 Mercruiser, 4.3 V6 LX GEN +, two barrel carb, electric choke and electric fuel pump I have the following problem:<br /><br />1º After a 7 day period of non use, the first time when I try to switch on the engine, (before I pump the throttle 3 times) is hard to start, cranking the engine for +/- 30 seconds.<br /><br />2º After a short run, later, when I start the engine again he start quickly with no problem.<br /><br />3º However when I switch of the engine he doesn’t stop immediately, he turns hard one more time +/- ?<br /><br />So I have one or two problems? one leak in the carb ? ignition problem ? auto ignition problem ?<br /><br />Thanks<br />Almeida

When was the last time it had a full tuneup. Timing checked, advance timing checked, carb mixture adjusted, and idle speed set to specs?

The engine was tune up 70 hours ago.<br /><br />What should be the periodicity of valve check?<br /><br />Thanks, Almeida

How long did it take to get those 70 hours?<br /><br />When I say a tuneup, I also mean more than throwing a set of sparkplugs in it. Timing ck, carb adj. all of it.<br />Have you done a compression test? How about looking at the spark plugs for indication of water in the cylinders.
