I had the gimbal bearing replaced on my I/O (9 old at that point and say 500 hours... no idea really).

This summer I THINK i hear the same noise again. Could the gimbal bearing really have that short a life? The marine that changed it for me has a reasonable reputation. Is this the sort of thing that requires a very high skill level?

How long does it take to pull the drive and re-install?

What's the difference, it still has to be done, and it really needs pulled yearly for preventive maintenance.

It takes me about 20 min to R&R the drive, to lube the coupler splines, check alignment etc. . Of course if it's been on there for years it may take hours depending on corrosion.

Just overcoming my apprehension Don. So far I have paid others to do the work for me.

I'll need a new seal kit before I start and someting to hold the drive unit (I looked at the homemade DU support tread already) right?

Do I need an alignment tool?
