4.3 GXI Volvo
Twin 6 cylinder
year 2004
Not too familiar with this set up
Other day I went on a 4 hour journey , ( like GULLIGAN )
Viewing gauges along the way , temp was fine
Getting too fuel dock , off an inlet . Currents extremely strong , pushing me into a vessel also at dock ,
More thrust need , this was on starboard engine , All of a sudden while shifting something malfunctioned ,
causing the rpms too go full throttle , ??? before I was able too get it into gear , Got too dock with other engine.
Upon inspection , engine room had a lot of water , plus salt residue all over engine,
Seems my raw water pump broke a seal spraying salt water all over engine , hitting electrical components
No indication this was happening during journey since engine temp was within normal range , THANKFULLY
Stayed over night , Following day got educated on the Volvo raw water pump . Everything on line , day or two too
receive , add in July 4th ,
Decided too return on one engine , 5.8 Knots , .
Was really nice , slow enjoyable ,
Don't know why throttle went full RPMs - shift cable binding ? removed still high rpms
maybe air flow valve was blocked or salt messed it up , OR JUST COWINDENSE
NAPA had one . Lot better but still too many RPMS ,
,
Surfing Volvo Parts a guy was selling a New Raw water pump , in my town , He purchased as back up but got rid of boat
He met me at dock , Brand new Volvo Penta still in box , , Not after market , Got a great deal , installed and no more
leaking , SO that part of my issue is fixed
He tried assisting with RPM issue , Putting his hand over throttle opening engine rpms went too normal speed ,
SO My question , Is there a way too adjust air flow valve
I did not install the Napa Valve , son did too help so don't know if he messed up or not seated
TOO MUCH AIR coming in ,
Guy said the flap that opens and closes might not be seating totally closed or some crud on flat ,
Not familiar with fuel injected rails and this type of set up so any advise is appreciated
Is there something else I am missing
thanks as usual
