this has been so far a bad year for boating for me, i guess all the good years are catching up with me. anyway, i have twin 1998 4.3 carburated mercruiser vortex motors. put boat in for the season and it ran great, winterized at marina. i noticed that my voltage meters were charging at 10 volts, no higher. i took off the alternators and had them rebuilt. both were in bad shape, diodes in one were melted. after putting them on, started up and volt meters were charging properly. but port motor would stall at idle, like it was starving for fuel. changed the fuel water separator and that didn't do anything. spark plugs were changed at begining of the season and mechanic said three of the port side motor plugs looked like they had a little antifreeze from winterization in them. intake manifold mabey? i had changed manifolds and risers the year before. i was able to tighted up the bolts, but i don't think its that. motor runs great with no misfires at higher rpm. could the electric fuel pump be going bad from the alternator problem? any ideas?
