I've been searching tons of old threads looking for my situation, but haven't really found anything, so here goes:
Last year, I started having an issue with the boat bogging, stalling, hesitating, etc. on acceleration. I was also having issues with cold starts. I couldn't ever get the boat to cold start without a bit of effort. The stalling behavior only happens after you've been running for a little while and then shut down. No matter how little or much you sit, when you restart - and it restarts perfectly - as you accelerate, the boat will settle all the way back down to idle. If I pull the throttle back to idle, the boat will keep running. If I leave the throttle about where it was (1/3-1/2 throttle usually), the boat will die. If I keep it running, I can then accelerate again and everything is fine. I can move all through the range of throttle as quickly or slowly as I wish and it won't stall. It only does it once, right after a restart from sitting.
This spring, I had the 2bbl Mercarb rebuilt by a local marine shop. I was figuring on a bad accelerator pump. The mechanic told me the rubber seal on my old one had dry rotted. I got the boat in the water after the rebuild. No more hard starting when cold. The first weekend out, the boat did great. That was the last time it was fine. The hesitation is back, just as bad as before. However, my cold start issues are resolved. What am I missing? Is this vapor lock? Anti-siphon? I haven't had the chance to check my timing, but I would expect more consistency if that were the issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
