Being new to boating, I recently purchased a 1989 Sunbird with a 4.3L OMC Cobra O/D. The motor is brand new and I got the boat at a great price. Well, the more I find needs fixing, that price is looking less and less great!! My current problem is when I checked out the boat I noticed it had an aftermarket automotive electrice fuel pump. I didnt relize what a problem that could be until I read a post concerning engine fires. I decided to replace the pump right away with the proper mechanical pump. Well. to my suprise, the new motor is a fuel injected block meaning the fuel pump port is blocked off and when you remove the plate, low and behold there is no thru hole for the pump shaft. Does not even need the cover plate, just cleans up the block. Since buying another block is out of the question right now at least, I need to know if anyone has any suggestions on an electric pump that can be made safe. I know there has to be a way considering all of the fuel injected boats out there. I have access to all the stainless steel line and fittings I need, so hard plumbing it seems to be my best option. If this can not be done safely than this boat will just have to sit for now. I will not risk my family or friends lives because of the cost of marine parts.
