4.3L flooding PLEASE HELP

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 1987 celebrity w a 4.3l 205 hp engine. the carb was rebuilt at the marina last year and continues to flood. gas is filling the carb and pouring out on the manifold. i disconnected the clear tube from the fuel pump and no gas was coming out so i think the fuel pump is ok. i took it to a different marina and they said its possible the secondary jets are bad. i noticed today that the oil level on the dipstick is way too high. i think there might be gas in the oil. Any way is this a carb problem? should i replace it with a reman. roch 4bbl

If you don't know how to rebuild a carb but are OK with basic tools and have patience with mechanical things, get a manual and rebuild it yourself. It's an easy afternoon project.

If you can't say yes to those things, you need to get it to a mechanic who knows what they're doing. The last guy apparently didn't.

Your oil needs to be changed before the engine is run; it's likely full of fuel. Get the carb fixed first, then change the oil, then fire the engine.

If there's that much fuel in the carb - did anyone check the fuel pump output pressure, or the float bowl's needle and seat?

Sounds like the float or needle is stuck . Sometimes I have seen the floats got soacked or leak and get heavy. Probably just stuck. take the top of the carb off and check it. be careful and you can save the gasket. Be careful not to put a lot of pressure on the float or you will have to reset the float level.

theond second mechanic suggested i get a new carb. good idea probably. part of the problem is the carb doesn't always flood. sometimes it works fine. thats whats confusing me.
