i have a 4.3L mercruiser i just had head gaskets, intake gaskets, manifold gaskets, and riser gaskets put on the mechanic said that it was ready to go and then i got ten miles away and it started to sound like it was missing bad and maybe knocking a little so i stopped checked the oil it was full and had no water in it there was a little steam coming out of the pcv valve going up to the carb so i took the hoses off thinking that water was going in the carb and restarted it it barley started then ran about 2 minutes then shut off and acted like the battery was dead eight hours later i got a tow back could this be vapor lock? where should i start ? any help is appreciated thanks

Do you have a year for this 4.3L? Have you pulled the spark plugs and checked for water in the cylinders? IF not, pull the plugs and crank the engine and see if any water comes out of the spark plug holes...... Then report back.

Do you have fuel coming out of the accelerator pump jets in the carb if you pump the throttle while cranking the engine over? It's an electric fuel pump, does it work?
