Help!
I have a 07 4.3L mercruiser with the carburetor engine. during winterization last fall I changed the fuel/water filter. First outing this spring the engine would not hold a speed above 3200 rpm. Started fine idled smooth as silk up to 3200 rpm. I could go full throttle for 30 seconds or so and then would lose power, stumbling, coughing... never quite dying completely. If I pulled back on the throttle with would smooth out and run fine. I looked ll over the engine... nothing looked out of place. I changed the fuel filter and it all went away! Went fishing 6 or 8 times with no issues.

Now 8 weeks later I spent a day with friends tubing, waterskiing, cruising, running full out. Infrequently it would stumble momentarily catch and go again. A couple of times It cutout ans stalled completely. Upon startup it would start right up and run smooth...

So what is wrong? Fuel pump is electric. After the incident this spring I suspect the fuel pump is weak. What should I replace it with? OEM or aftermarket?

I would first check shift cable adjustment to make sure interrupt switch isn't being tripped. Some controls are so cheesy the shift mechanism continues to move even as throttle is advancing

It wouldn't hurt to check the fuel filters again. You could have picked up more water.

Any recommendations on electric fuel pumps?

Took the top off of the carb - no dirt or water. Changed the plugs - burning clean!
