Finally uncorked the engine and found a crack at the top of the water jacket on #1 under the intake manifold. Anyone have an affordable supplier in mind for me to pick up a long/short block? I think the heads may have survived, I will have a pro check though.
thanks in advance,
cheers,
Kevo

Well, I got the heads into the sunlight and lo and behold, they are both gone. I suspected the worst anyway, it had frozen at least twice since my son has owned it...I have already given the www.rapidomarine.com a look see. Looks like the place to purchase..
thanks for the info,
cheers,
Kevo

btw, I hate this boat now......:D

K folks, If I can locate a nonVortex block, what are the odds that all my attachments will bolt up. I figure I can just find a block, rebuild if necessary(been there, done that). And I am sure it will all be soo frikkin simple ( I know, not one chance in He((.)..but, I just want to make sure that everything will bolt up, from what I understand, the differances are in add ons...are the marine heads different? I am not sure if the standard heads have the exhaust crossover for the intake manifold...Just trying to cross all "T's" before I make the jump, and, I have always been a penny pincher, how else could I have learned to do this, necessity is the mother of invention, you know, haha, she has taught me soo much...
Any thoughts greatly appreciated, my block is classified as an 87 model, 12 bolt intake, rear one piece seal and the valve covers have three torx head bolts per side..
cheers, :D

I still prefer having a block rebuilt by RapidoMarine, we will just have to wait and see if the finances materialize soon...

yes that is possible,as there have been others on here doing just that. difference the heads i think are different,at least mine have a place to drain them, and the cam shaft is different built for the low end torque.you need to also make sure of the age of the donor motor,as the flywheel will be different from the pre 87 series, and i dont know to how far forward they went with the same series.other thing you may want to look at is the manifolds and risers,if she froze to crack the block, these may be done too.
good luck

Ayuh,... Ya need a block from 1987 to current production....
The Vortec change is a Head,+ Intake change, the block is the Same...
