4.3L omc cobra power steering pump

i was wonder if i can replace my power steering pump on my 88 omc 4.3L with a power steering pump from a car with the same motor ...i can get one for free off an old car ..this is why i ask.

Ayuh,... Except the fittings or bolt holes might be Different....

What's the matter with the original,..??

A free one off an old car is very likely to leak. Doesn't take too many miles to wear out the output shaft seal and throw PS fluid all over the place.

the original pump looks likes the shaft or pulley wheel is warped when the engine is on and it seems to make the belt shake and wable excessively .

There's no reason you can't.

You will need to find one that has the same mounting points.....(keep your OMC specific bracket) If the pulley is different you can go to Auto Zone and borrow a "Pulley-puller" and put the correct on on it.

You can also probably buy a rebuilt one or a rebuild kit. Power steering pumps are pretty simple devices. Figure out what model it is and go to RockAuto.com

For example, I found rebuilt pumps there that would fit a 1986 chev pickup for as little as $37 + shipping.
