Rebuilding a 4.3L with Vortec pre 96 Heads & Manifold, I am going to replace the Heads & Intake with the newer 8 hole Intake & Matching Heads & re-use the Holly 4 barrel Carb, I also intend to use a riser on the intake. I found the newer heads already remanufactured to be the same price as having the old heads remanufactured. How much HP gain Should I expect from the new Vortec Configuration, the pre-96 Vortec was rated @ 205hp I'm looking to bump 220hp without going to Fuel Injected.

Re: 4.3L Vortec

I will say maybe 10 to 15 horsepower. Older camshaft profile will not take advantage of these heads limiting potential. With a matching cam and a perfect tune maybe 30 horse total. Not a drastic amount for a marine engine, it normally takes a huge boost in power to be felt in the performance of the boat.

Ayuh,.... I already posted on this once, but I guess it got moved,...

You'll pretty much make your expectations with the heads, 'n intake swap....

I don't particularly care for a Holley carb, but that's not the point...

I didn't know if you were referring to Votec in general or the newer Vortec's vs the older one's
