Hey guys, rebuilt carb Rochester 4bbl and now have beautiful idle and running, except for warm restarts on occasion. I checked and bit of extra fuel leaking down flooding it.

Anyone know measurements for brass floats? I used measurements for a plastic float. Are they the same? Either way mine must be just a touch off. Opinions on brass floats?

Thanks for help, i searched to avoid asking but could not find anything.

If this is a Q-jet its a tad more then 1/4 inch (really 3/16 in most cases). Reason for using a tad more is due to up/down and banking of the boat. Doesn't matter if the float is brass or composite. The bass float needs to make sure there isn't a hole/crack in it. Most those come in where its soldered together. If it is removed quickly shake it and listen for sloshing

except for warm restarts on occasion.

If your getting the occasional hard restarts and fuel drip, make sure the fuel bowl baffle is in there. This piece of plastic keeps fuel from slushing around

Thanks alldodge, i know i pulled a baffle out will check to be sure it went back. Dont recall what i set float to. Just remember reading guys not liking brass as different weight and buyoncy but finding it odd no other specs on a brass float if it were real issue. Will post update

So, i pulled the top off and checked, i have 9/32" per spec sht. Looks like plenty of extra room in well. So i threw it back together and it idles great can shut it down and slight richness on startup.

I have my mixture screws maybe 3 turns out for idle. Im afraid to mess with it if it idles fine but could that be causin my issue. I dont know where to plug in a vacuum gauge. I did recently do a full tuneup on it with oem plugs

Adjusting the idle screws should not be a major concern, just be gentle with them. Most folks screw them in to tight and damage the needle and/or seat. The 3 turns out isn't bad, and turning in a up to 1 turn would still not be an issue. Only issue you might run into if it still runs and idles once warmed up but has issue when cold might be a choke adjust or a tad back out.

The Q-jet uses a vacuum pull off and has a small piece of tubing running to it, but that is about the only vacuum source you may find. The manifold normally doesn't have plugs to remove

Thanks alldodge, i will have to try doing it with the vacuum gauge. When problem first started i had thought choke related. Im not too sure how to adjust that or what to really look for. I know my choke is only cracked open while engine is slightly warm. Havent gotten chance to check when fully warm
