4.3LX oil pressure?

The other day out on the lake I noticed that my oil pressure gauge was reading max ( it goes up to 8 and was reading over that) while I was cruising at about 3200rpm. So I kept a close eye on it all day, at idle in neutral it would read around 4 psi in gear at idle it would drop to 3 and any time any more throttle was used it would spike up to max and stay there. What is the normal range for this motor? Could I have a bad oil pump?

Before you take another step - confirm the readings with a remote guage (beg, borrow or buy).

3 or 4 PSI is way too low and pegged out is way too high. Could be a faulty sender, or worse :( .

It goes without saying that you checked the oil level, yeah?

Aldo

The oil is good, fresh and the right amount. Guess I need to figure out a remote gauge then...
still don't know what its supposed to read though.

What year is your LX and what is your gauge reading in, PSI X10 or Bar????
Most newer V6's should have 30 to 55 PSI at 2000 rpm.

cold its going to be higher, probably around 70psi-warmed up --30 is about lowest---thicker oil is going to run higher psi---use correct oil for your engine.

Sorry Don, it's a 1996 reading in PSI x 10, thanks for the info though!
Lowshovel1 I use the Quicksilver oil for my engine, I'm a little picky.
