I need help! 1983 johnson 4.5 hp. nice clean low hour motor. Getting so hot its dicoloring paint on head. Replaced complete pump and housing, blew out intakes,.Removed powerhead and replaced base gasket and grommet that tube goes in,still not spitting much. Then removed exhaust gasket and head. Water deflector in top jacket looked fine. Put back together with new gaskets, still hot not spitting much water. I am stumped. THANKS

Does that engine have a thermostat? If it does it could be sticking. Also since you say it isn't spitting much water there might be somehting pluging one of the holes inside the powerhead. Just some suggestions. Did you replace just the water pump impeller or the housing too?
