4.5 Mecruser winterzation with air pump system

Any body have the 4.5 Mercruser with the air pump winterization single point system . Or 4.5 in general.

If I did I would remove completely and go back to plain old drain plugs

Ayuh,..... I've never lain eyes on the 4.5l yet, but completely agree with BD,.....

ALL of the systems Merc has designed to make drainin', Easy, are much more apt to lead to frozen busted blocks, than a successful winterization,.....

The safest way to drain that, or any motor is to strip off the Merc system, 'n use plain ole brass pipe plugs in the actual block drain holes,.....

The primary reason the the single point drain system was invented is also why greese fittings dissapear.

Consumer reports and similar rating entities give higher points when there are less maintenence points to touch.

Agreed, that while the system may work well for the warranty period, it will fail taking out the motor
