4.5 merc 1 cylinder No serial Number?

NO serial number. No number on welch plug. Number on cylinder head is 1016 7068
Any help?
Got pics If I can figure that OUT.
Has the old recoil cover/ hood.
How many years did they make 4.5 ?
Fill stupid asking this question, with my vast Knowledge.???

I had one with a red band on the cowling. 1974 rings a bell but do not know the mfg. window for the series. Neat little motor, but OMC's little 2 cylinders spoiled me and I had to get rid of it because the single cylinder sound just drove me nuts. Traded it in on a 7.5 which was a sweeter engine.

First year for Mercury 4.5 hp was 1975 and the last year was 1985.

If it has a driveshaft diameter at the impeller of .456 it is a 75 to 79 model.
If it has a driveshaft diameter at the impeller of .438 it is a 80 to 85 model.
Through 1978 it was named (on the cowl) 45.
1979 and later it was named 4.5.

This ought to get you real close. I've got two of them, a 78 that I run and an 83 for a parts motor. I've found they're virtually idental except for the drive shaft variances.
