4.5 merc point gap

working on a 4.5 merc o/b put points in it and do not know the gap. the omc are stamped on flywheel that is a big help my ser# is 4421100

thanks corm!! that is what i set them at. this thing will not turn up or go fast it sounds like it only sparks everyother time so i was thinking condensor not holding corect voltage went to the dealer to get one 65.00 for a condencer is this a problem spot or do they never go bad???

Hi,<br />They rarely go bad. I don't know if I have ever replace one, other than getting ground up in the flywheel . I think that the insulator that the point spring is attached to with the little nut is cracked and your voltage is leaking to ground.<br />You have to remove the stator and points to check it out. There is no repair to this just replace it. They aren't to expensive. This is the most common and cheapest fix, hope it is the problem.
