i have a 2005 yamaha f 60 4 stroke, book says 5000 to 6000 wot. i bought this boat with a beat up 4 blade 11.1 x 11. with it full of gas and gear, my 250 pound *ss and my fat buddy i run wot at 6000 rpm and 30 mph by my gps. so my question is, if i go to a 3 blade what size should i try or if i stay with a 4 blade would the extra performance from the new prop ( being full size without chips and bends) keep me in my rpm range? thanks in advance, joe

Re: 4 blade to 3

You are right were you need to be with RPMs on that motor. With that said, I would stick with the same size 4-blade (pitch and diameter) or if you go to a 3-blade move up to a 13 pitch. With out any info on the boat, it is hard to say which prop will be best for you. But from what I do know, it sounds like the 4-blade is the way to go with your set-up. You should definately get some more performance with some new blades! You can get a great replacment right here at iboats for under $100!

I think you should stick with the 4 blade. It appears your pushing a real load.It should get on plane easier and stay on plane with less throttle.A 3 blade may go a touch faster but it could be a struggle to get there.also will likely be more difficult to stay on plane with reduced throttle.
You could get your present prop repaired.

Re: 4 blade to 3

thanks for the reply's. i have a 2007 15' key largo with a jackplate. i looked at a friends 3 blade, same diameter and pitch and it looked huge compared to mine. i didn't know how much a new prop would change rpm's because of wear. i'm buying my new prop from iboats(same size) and at worst i'll have a new spare and a direction to go if it changes to much. thanks again for the help, joe
