It is not built by Yamaha and its is a tried and proven inline 4 cylinder design made from mid 50's to late 90's and very dependable if maintained properly....

Check the engine numbers. That will tell you if it was made by Yamaha.

My 50hp also had no maintance for sometime, before I bought it.

I have the same motor and have done all the maintance myself. Went through the motor from rebuilding the lower unit seals, waterpump, and carbs to replacing a stator.

The four cylinders are good motors and run great.

Think # 3 is gone, when I put my finger over it not as much pressure as other 3 cylinders, wonder if its a stuck ring ........sprayed some W D 40 in hole, doubtful it will work. It does build up compression w/compression tester to 130 and holds over night though, any suggestions?
