1979 Johnson Seahore 4 h.p. Model # 4w79d
The upper and lower vibration dampers and bushings are worn. There is a little wiggle in the unit when I grab the lower unit and top of the motor and wiggle it. Will this alow water to enter my lower unit oil? its not hurting anything or is it? any imput would be helpful

Thanks,
Suzuki40

It shouldn't if the seals in the lower unit are good. Those lower unit seals are a pain the but ot get out. I have replaced them on my 4 hp.

I took the vib dampners outand cleaned them and reinstalled them. They seemed to work much better. Mine where full of crud from over the years.

What did you have to do to get to the vibration dampers?

Suzuki40

Hi Su40,
The vibration dampers can be accessed by removing the rear cover off the clamp assembly. Held on by several 3/8" head hex bolts.... They are completly seperate from the lower unit oil cavity, so no water will get in there that way...
- Scott
