I have a 4 spline 115 power head, it was off a new but damaged motor years ago, that's all I know about it. What years would it work on? Were these strictly electric shift motors only?

The story I got was that it came from a new motor that had an electrical fire, the power head was untouched so it got saved over the years. Supposedly it was a new powerhead that was being installed and the motor caught fire in the process. It looks new and has good compression, I hate to just look at it sit on the shelf.
I have several 1976 and newer V4's but all are fine spline motors.
If I can't use it, I might as well trade it for something I can use. I don't really want to chase after an electric shift just to make use of this power head.

The 4 spline cranks were in 115's up to 1970.

Re: 4 spline power head/crank

How about swapping in a later crank? Will a crank from a later 115 work? I have a few good used cranks here from 1974-1977 115 motors, would I then be able to build a motor using the new, but older model block? (Even if I was to build it using the earlier ignition and bolt ons?
The block looks the same externally, it looks to have the same mounting pattern and brackets.
