is ti posible to get more power out of an 40 hp 4 stroke i have found a plate on the cab says 40

the motor is for 2001 2002

The least expensive method to get more horsepower out of any engine is to buy the size you need. No doubt you've looked at the specs and determined the displacement (CC) is the same as a one or two higher horsepower models. Cam, compression, exhaust tunign carburetion, and ignition advance determines horsepower on four strokes. You would need to go to the Mercury web site and compare parts lists for the higher HP engines to see what parts you need to complete the job. You will also find the costs to be prohibitive.

Do you need more speed ? Pulling power or what?
A different prop may help in your case.

More details on the engine would help answering, unless you want answers like: sell it and buy a bigger engine 8)

[colour=blue]If it's an EFI, one of the differences between the 40 & 50 is the ECU - around $900.
