Re: 4 stroke motors

Or do any use gear drive to turn the cam- or chain drive? My old Bearcat uses a geared shaft drive for the cam. Are all the newer 4 stroke motor's cams driven by belts?

hello
yes yamaha has a list of engines that the pistons will clear the valves in the event of a belt failure. do the maint and you will never have a problem. do the maint or do the repairs either way I get a paycheck :) :)
good luck and keep posting

Yamaha also has a design that eliminates rocker arms.

Suzuki uses an enclosed oil bath chain drive, much like the timing chain system on older automobiles.

I can't remember hearing the last time someone's timing belt broke.

My Suzi DF70 uses a belt. It is a single cam engine. Maybe the twin cam engines use chains.

The DF60/70 won't have the chain drive.

But you'll find it in their DF25, DF30, DF40, DF50, DF90, DF115, and DF140. The DF25 and DF30 are single overhead cam.
