4 stroke oil

i've got a new to me 2005 yamaha 115 4 stroke. is it ok to use a good grade of motor oil or should i use yamalude brand. if it is alrigth what is some of the brands you guys use? also shouold you change oil filter every time?

If it is still under warranty use yamalube or what ever the dealer or service manual recommends. You don't have to use yamalube, but I would use a name brand oil and be sure to stick with the correct weight. The last oil change on my 02 suzuki I put castrol gtx in it with a fram oil filter. Wix makes a good after market oil filter as well.

The filter should be replaced every oil change. It is cheap insurance.
