4 stroke or 2

i have a '07 9.9 4 stroke merc on an 14' utility boat does anyboy know if a 2 stroke wold go any faster (som e pros cons?) what is a 4strke 9.9 = to? j.b.cornwell some advice ?

Yes, your typical 9.9 2-stroke will be a tad faster than your typical 9.9 4-stroke. That would depend on manufacturer, however. I wouldn't necessarily include Chrysler/Force or the Tecumseh powerheaded versions in that category. Most anything with thru-hub exhaust, yeah. But only in that they're a little more likely to plane the boat. That would mean a significant difference, otherwise we're talking an mph or two. I'd say that a 15 4-stroke is about comparable to a 9.9 2-stroke in rowboat planeability (is that a word? ;)).

The most significant cause is about 50lb less hanging off the transom, but the difference in WOT speed would be trivial, IMO.

its a power vs weight issue

it is very hard to beat the 2-stroke power to weight ratio until you get well over 100 HP
