Does anyone use any other brand of oil in their outboards other than Quicksilver or Mercury. I have a 2005 40 4-stroke that I use 25w-40 in. If someone knows alittle more about compatible oils of different brands that are ok to use, I'd like to know. I know the rule of thumb that your better of safe than sorry, but at 22 bucks a gallon, its nice to have other options.

Are you looking for compatability or cheaper, carry a quart of mercury oil with you if it's using that much oil you need to get it fixed. I think if you read a owners manual you will find a section on oil.

I think Walmart has it a LOT cheaper than that. I know they carry the 2STK stuff...might want to take a peek..

Pennzoil 4-stroke outboard oil at our local Wallyworld is $3.84/qt last time I checked.
