4 stroke vs. 2 stroke

Generally, do 4 stroke motors offer more power than 2 strokes with identical horspower ratings, prop size, and pitch? In other words, all things being equal, which one gives better top end speed? Thanks.

I would expect the 2-stroke to give a SLIGHT edge in top speed and holeshot-simply because of the weight advantage.

Howdy. WF. What DJohns says makes sense, but I think that a 2s 70 and a 4s 70 differ about as much from each other as they do from other 70s, 2 or 4. <br /><br />Any engine rated at 70hp can actually put out anything from about 58hp to 82hp. Performance will be a result of actual hp, not rated hp.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB
