Hello

I have a 2001 4 storke 15hp Merc. I use my outboard only a few times a year and mostly for fishing. Not a lot of hours on it. I have a question about the winterization process. Where exactly do i spray the fogging Oil. I was just told to remove the spark plugs and spary in there. Is this correct? I also want to run the engine out of the lake, so i bought a pair of ear muffs. Buts it looks like that water intake is right over the prop. So i cant attach the ear muffs with a hose to it because the prop will hit it. So whats the best way to the engine out of the lake?

Run it in a trash can. This is a carbureted engine so you spray fogging oil in the air intake. But before you do that, add Stabil, SeaFoam or whatever fuel conditioner you prefer to the fuel and then run the engine until the stabilized fuel is in the engine. Then fog it. If you prefer to run the engine out of gas, you should know that there will still be some fuel in the carb and it will still go bad so whether or not you run it out of fuel, be sure to stabilize the fuel. The engine is self draining so store it vertically, especially if it will be stored in freezing conditions. Lay the engine on its side for storage, lay it correctly so oil doesn't fill the cylinders.
