I have an issue finding a replacment plug for my trolling motor. My receptacle is 4 plug female and my male plug is 4-wire black/red black/red. I run a 12 volt system. I can find female 4 wire receptacles but I cannot find 4 wire, wired, plugs.
My curosity tells me I should be alright, that it's to acoomadate 12/24 wiring but I can't be sure and I always try to replace equipmeint with like wise to stay safe. Especially when it comes to wiring.

Thanks for any help you may have.

Re: 4 wire male trolling motor plug

Are you just asking whether you can switch to a two-wire plug and receptacle? The answer to that question is yes since your motor is a straight 12 volt unit. You are correct: the current setup was wired for a 12/24 volt motor.

INot sure why you need a new connector but more to the point, Why would you be looking for a "wired" plug? Four wire receptacles tend to be the same as the "L" series plugs and receptacles that you can obtain in the electrical department of any big box store like Lowes, Home Depot, etc. The receptacles are labeled "R" and plugs are labeled "P" and are available in either three or four terminal. Look at the marking on the receptacle and buy the matching plug with the "P" designator. You don't need it wired. You remove the wires from the existing plug and install them on the same terminals on the new plug. PAY ATTENTION DURING THE REMOVAL PROCESS. All you need to do is ensure the two wires going into the RECEPTACLE from the battery match up with the two terminals on the plug that feed the motor. Observing oplarity is obviously critical.
