Helps to know the year. Later one have a pee stream, earlier ones have an exhaust port that you can see the water come out of. In either case, you should be able to (barely) keep your hand on the cylinder when it's running without burning yourself.

mine is rds-23 the bottom has this weird looking exhaust port and i can barely touch it and have to take my finger off that is the head were does the pee supposed to come out of the water of course
you have no tale tell steam. what you have is the exhaust relief ports on the back of the leg. in a barrel at idle you should be getting droplets of water out of these. if you rev the motor slightly if should sort of spit and that's in. the majority of the water goes out the exhaust.
