40 HP 1965 evinrude water problem

I did rebored the lower unit(changing gasket and seal). The recommendation was to change the impeller at the same time witch i did. I have the motor until a month ago. The problem is: when i drive iddle, the water come out normally from the water pipe on the back of the engine. But when we start to increase the motor medium to high speed, water stop leaking and the motor doesnt appear to overheat. So, i dont do long drive because im affraid to burn the motor. I need help about it.

Some water should spray out of the upper exhaust relief port. But, never a heavy discharge, just a spray, which increases with speed.<br /><br />One easy way to tell if it's overheating is to touch the cylinder water jackets. If it's too hot to touch, you have a problem. If it's hot, but you can keep your fingers on it, it's not overheating.

i have lots of water coming out at idle speed and less water when speed increases so i dont know where the water may go because the impeller turn faster as the speed increase????????<br />and i made the test at touching the cylinder water jacket and it doesn't seem to overheat <br /><br />thanks for the info. captain

chances are that you have the same amount of water coming out at high speed as you do low speed because it is pushing it out faster so it comes out as a mist rather than big drops that you are used to. If you can run it and hold your finger(s) on the cylinder head for a count of three then you are cooling sufficiently. Just don't forget to put the plug in.
