I have a 40 on my boat with a 50 that was blown for parts. Can I just change the carbs to get 50 out of my 40?? Its a 1993 model. Any help would be nice.

Thanks

Aaron

Welcome ti iboats.

By far, the biggest myth with outboard motors is that all you have to do is to put a carb from a bigger motor on to give you that much horsepower. That's one of the most frequently questions asked here.

That is true for only a handful of motors, and well before 1993. They get different horsepower from the same block by any combination of about a dozen different factors. Just changing one component will not give you the whole package, and often if you change just one, you can do serious harm to the motor. So, to make a long story short, the answer to your question in No.
