40 HP 89 Johnson stuck in Forward -- 2nd post!

The throttle/shift works. I can manually move the shift mechanism on the side of the engine. The engine stays in forward whether or not I am in Forward, Neutral, or Reverse. I think it is stuck as a result of shifting too hard. Please help!

KY,<br /><br />Keep one post going, you'll get more responses that way.<br /><br />Look at the linkage under the bottom carbureter. It should move with the cablle/linkage attached to the cable.<br /><br />It's not unheard of for the pin/screw to fall out that actuates the actual shift rod coming out of the lower unit.
