4 cylinder 2 stroke 1996
I get 105 lbs #1,#2,#4, and 110 #3
It looks like a prior owner compression # was 118 # 1 to as high as #138
(I am unsure if they are compression numbers- but their are 4 of them on the side of the engine in white pen)
(warmed engine 10 minutes before testing with all plugs pulled)

Will engine need an overhaul soon ? I do not know what lower limits are, though I see that over 100 lbs is mentioned as a generic lower comopression-

Re: 40 HP compression question

The compression numbers look OK relative to each other. Compression is generally considered OK if the numbers are within 10% of each other. You might consider decarbing the motor to see if the numbers change a bit and get closer to each other. Also, you might try a different compression gauge to see if the readings are different. Gauges are not always that accurate. They are always fine for comparing readings between cylinders but the actual reading on the gauge may be off.
