I have a aluminum boat which will be used primarily for work but was wondering if a 40Hp engine will be enough to drag a 165 lb wakeboarder??
also I have very good technique for getting up which causes very little drag..

What size boat?

In all honesty, you could wakeboard behind a 10fter with a 9.9hp (I've seen it done).

With an experienced (And patient) rider, you can really board behind anything that can get on plane. Getting up is the hardest part for most riders, and puts some of the most strain on the boat (For beginners, more advanced riders put a ton of strain when they are cutting). I would say that you really could get up, it may to a little more time, since you aren't just going to pop up. But, it is should certainly be do-able.
Again, what is the size and top speed of the boat? The minimum you want to go when boarding is 16-20 mph.
