40 hp johnson help

i just picked up a rk-24l the top end fires right up but the lower unit is all seized up is there anything i should do to try to get the lower unit moving or is there somewere anyone knows were to find this lower unit assy.

Probably rust in the gearcase if it's seized up. You can remove the L/U and remove the skeg and see what's going on inside. If the bearings are rusted, I'd probably start looking for a replacement lower unit. Check on Ebay or go to AOMCI.org and post a free want-ad on Webvertize.

are there any other years and Hp that i could put on there. or is a 62 40 electromatic the only lower unit that will work
