I have a 1998 40 hp Johnson that is mounted on a 13 boston whaler dauntless. This boat sits low in the rear and on decelleration sometimes the water comes over the transom and I am worried about the rectangular exhaust? hole at the base of the cowling. if the motor is running is it allright and no water will enter. Also when I flush the engine and put it up (ran in saltwater) should I squirt some corrosion block, etc. in this hole.

Thanks,

RKP

rkp,

No need to worry. That is the exhaust idle relief. You have a long way to go before water could back up into a cylinder.

You shouldn't have to pay any special attention to that area as far as corrosion goes.
