I recently purchased a 1986 EL Mariner (made in Japan) Serial # 6E9 L 423041. First-- I have not been able to verify the year-- any help would be appreciated. The main problem, however, is the top cylinder fouls out after a short period of use. Putting a new plug in solves the problem for up to 15 minutes of use, then the problem is back. I have tried new no ethanol gas, treating the gas with seafoam, and installing new (slightly hotter) NGK BR7HS plugs (the plugs the engine came with were NGK B8HS). The2cyl s-stroke engine has an external oil pump--- is this related to the problem?? I need to get the problem fixed before our family fishing trip!!! Any help is greatly appreciated!!

1st... file 13 the autoblend unit(oiler) and go to premix. You engine has lost spark coil so coil is not your problem, more likely pinhole in fuel pump diaphragm flooding cylinder.

Thanks! I was thinking of getting rid of the oiler already because I am afraid it will stop working without notice, causing the engine to seize. Is removing it as simple as disconnecting the wires and routing the fuel line direct from the tank to outboard?

Do you know where I can get a fuel pump rebuild kit for this motor? I had a 15 hp Japanese Mariner on my old boat that needed a rebuild last year. I took it to a marine repair shop and they had a heck of a time finding the right parts......
