40 hp merc no spark, bad flywheel magnets?

I have an '81 40 hp merc 2 cyl. 2 stroke ser. # 5899567. No fire to either spark plug. Stator and trigger sending voltage to switch box. No voltage from switch box to coils. The boat quit last time out and I noticed a clicking noise when I was trying to start it back. Took off flywheel and one of the magnets had a small chip on one corner and a couple of fins on the charging stator were bent slightly. I guess the clicking noise was that little chip of magnet hitting the charging stator. Both magnets are still very strong and haven't moved but could that be why I'm not getting any voltage to the coils?

Unlikely, check the simple stuff first, engine kill switch, mercury tilt/kill switch, frayed wiring shorting out. It is unusual for both cyl to die .

Thanks for the reply daveswaves. You're right. I need to take a deep breath and try again. I've checked all the hard stuff first I did find that my coils need to be replaced but that doesn't explain why no voltage is going too them. Here I've had the flywheel off checking the stator and trigger and thinking the switch box is bad but never even thought to check the kill switch circuit. I'm probably going to cuss if that turns out to be the problem.
