If you are talking about the Tohatsu/Nissan Two-Stroke, Low-Pressure, Direct-Injected motor, or TLDI, such as the MD40 (Tohatsu) or NSD40 (Nissan), it is a solid design. The Tohatsu will be less expensive, and is identical except for decals. See http://www.nissanmarine.com/products/40_tldi.html for the brochure information.

I've got a 2009 version of this Engine "Tohatsu" branded and it's a great motor. Starts easily, fantastic on fuel, has plenty of torque to get the boat up on the plane even with a full load on my 14' boat with 4 people. Couldn't be happier with the motor

Just picked up the Nissan 40 TLDI short shaft, tiller with trim and tilt. I have 2 1/2 hours on it and still in the process of breaking it in. So far so good. This motor is quiet and plenty of get up. I put it on my 16' x 60" aluminum boat. The dealer and I settled for a 11.1x13 pitch prop and am happy. I did GPS it and got 35mph. Plenty for me. I'll post more info later.
