40 hp Nissan will start but won't run right need throttle linkage

just rebuilt an Ns40c Nissan with a short block from another engine. The engine will start but wants to run off when the throttle is open. I try to pull back on the throttle and it dies out. I think the throttle linkage might be off. Does anyone have the process for syncing the carb with the throttle? I have seen the numbers for 30hp Nissans but not the 40hp. Would appreciate the linkage measurement numbers if you have them. I bought a manual but it doesn't cover the linkage info. Pics would be great.

The 40C shares very little with the 30A. What manual are you using? The Factory service manual has full, step-by-step instructions for the link-and-sync procedure, including photos with arrows pointing to critical areas. Basically, you want full spark advance when you have WOT at the carb.

The manual I'm using is a Clymer Nissan outboard shop manual for 2.5 to 140hp(1992-2000). It has pictures but no numbers for distances for the linkage. I'm trying to get the linkage as close to the standard before I do any major adjustments. I think the owner had problems with the linkage and it caused him to throw a rod with the previous engine.

You need to pick up a factory service manual.

I couldn't locate one the area. The local Nissan dealer said it would be over a week before I could get one. I'm really close to finishing this but just need a few measurements and a picture if possible. Would like to get this done today or tomorrow.

Just a quick update. After cleaning the carb 2 times and having the same results I bought a new carb and tried that. It started right up and is running great. When comparing the old carb to the new I realized that the pilot air jet was missing. Looks like it must have vibrated loose and fell out. That was the reason I could not get the engine to idle or run right. I could not tell from looking at the carb that it was missing until I had the new one to compare it to.
