Ok I know these are hard to pull start but come on I did everything to wake this sleeping motor. plugs out she pulls fine plugs it I almost pull arm out of socket. Any body have any thoughts on what to try next and a new motor is not in budget.

Wow thats a bit low to be giving you all that resistance. Have you been able to start the motor yet, or not since you've tried to awaken it? I am wondering if there is some sort of rust/corrosion in the crank bearings.

Is the motor well anchored while you are pulling (if not reverse-locked on your boat)? I had to re-enforce my stand to keep it solid while I cranked on my BigTwin 40hp (similar powerhead), and it made all the difference in not killing myself. Didn't ease the compression, but allowed a more controlled and focused pull on the rope. Maybe someone holding it for you... ?

Make sure to give it enough throttle too, mine was a hard starter until I began giving "almost" full throttle (probably two-thirds in neutral) with full choke. Started up 2nd to 4rth pull every time from cold since with a nice clean and tuned carb...

I'm also wondering if maybe your low compression reading has to do with the difficulty you're having pulling the rope.. ? If you're not getting full cranks while doing your test, it might be giving you misleading results...

Just some thoughts, hope it helps...

I had one of those, same thing, started to work out and take protein shakes. Only kidding mine was electric start but when I had a dead battery look out. When it came time to change the impeller found out that the crank was rust frozen to main shaft. When the 'O' ring on the top of the main shaft goes, they start to rust. parts now. When you go to change the impeller next time put some "never Seize on the spline of the main shaft.

Somebody mentioned the mounting. Is it on a boat? If it is on a stand or higher up than a normal boat transom, it will be hard to pull just because of not being held down and the angle you are pulling. If it is on a boat, grab hold of that rope with both hands and heave on it like you mean it, following through with your body and not just arm muscles. Do it right and it isn't so bad.
Saying all this without knowing who you are, sex, age, strength, etc. My teen age girl cousin could start mine but she was pretty athletic. And knew her way around boats and motors.
