40 HP Oiler Advice Needed - Thanks

I have a 1996 Yamaha 40 HP.....A couple of other motors I have had in the past had oiler problems and I had them unhooked and manually mixed the oil...in some regards it seems safer...they were NOT Yamahas. I actually had one Merc 150 lock up because the oiler hose broke inside the motor.

This Yamaha does not pump from a remote reservoir...it has a small tank inside the motor cover you keep full.....My question is --- would you advise disconnecting and manually mixing to be safer? Do they give trouble very much? I bought the motor this past spring -- used--- and can't handle a big repair and just want to know the smartest thing to do. Any advice on it or the reliability of what is there would be appreciated.

Yamaha oiler is reliable most problems you will find are user error.

If it makes you feel better do it but make sure you use the correct ratio and don't forget to add oil.

You will use more oil pre mixing

In reading the manual for my susuki 75 , it explains that the oil injected is regulated by rps. higher rpms more oil ,lower rpms less oil. so pre mixing at a set ratio may be to rich for low speeds and foul plugs.
