Hi everyone,

I had to swap my 1988 40 hp Yamaha from my fishing boat to my pontoon. The motor on the pontoon lost a cylinder and we use the pontoon almost every day.
Anyway the Yamaha we working fine on the other boat. Now that it is on the pontoon if I turn the steering wheel to the right everything is fine if I turn it slightly from center to the left the motor slows down as though I pulled back on the throttle or it is in a bind. Any ideas what would cause this?
I've double checked to make sure that the cables are not in any kind of a bind and are secured to the motor properly.
The only thing I changed during the swap was the oil in the lower unit and installed a new water pump kit.

Thanks, Timmy

Go back to the motor, remove the shroud, and watch the throttle controls while your wife or friend turns the wheel to the left. Hopefully you will see what is causing the problem. Good Luck,
