40 Merc that won't run

My motor won't run beyond the fuel in the primer bulb. Ran it at home for a good hour and was fine. Started it on fishing trip, was fine and idled till pushed off the jetty, now after the fuel in the primer runs out, the motor dies.

Is this a carb problem, dirt, float etc? Or is there more to it?

You have a fuel supply problem, Paul.

My guess is a failed fuel pump, but it could be in the tank pickup, air leak in the line or other restriction that the primer can overcome but the fuel pump can't..
